Beach Chairs is a singular name for multiple solutions. A generic term encompassing many different models - from backrests - to slings - to the ever famous Adirondack or "Westport Chairs" dating back to 1903 - patented in 1905 (see patent).

The beloved Muskoka chair started out as the Westport chair, named after Wesport, New York, where it was patented. It later became known as the Adirondack chair, in honour of the mountains of the same name in New York state, where tuberculosis patients were sent to relax and take in the fresh air at a convalescent home. The sling chairs above and below - were and always will be -- a favorite of many - comfortable - lovely designs - natural materials. Great for beach-sides - all outdoors - even for inside uses.
We love these !!


History of Folding Chairs is an intersting site - that writes:
The tripolina campaign folding chair was used by British officers.
the inspiration was the tripolina chair designed by Joseph Beverly Fenby of England ca. 1855, so named in Italy, where it was manufactured during 1930s. Fenby patented the tripolina in 1877.

Inexpensive yes. However - not durable - and not at all aesthetically pleasing !! OUCH.
